Poetry and Science at the Space Centre

What a delight it was to be back with Leicester’s Astronomical Society this week launching the print edition of our latest title, Rosetta’s Midnight Barge. Under the bubble-wrapped dome of the National Space Centre’s Rocket Tower, Siobhan Logan blended poetry, performance and powerpoint lecture to celebrate ESA’s Rosetta mission (2004-16). Channelling her ‘inner Egyptian Goddess’, Logan recited spells from her ‘Book of Hours’ to protect ESA’s spacecraft on its adventure.

Space Cat’s Porthole Opens

Our big news this week is that we’re opening our porthole for submissions again! Between 10th March and 12th May this year, you can submit writing on the theme of Into the Forest for our 2023 anthology. We’re looking for our usual mix of genres and a wide array of approaches to the theme. So your imagination might turn to Eco-writing, Forest Fables, Urban Jungles or Space Trees. We welcome short fiction, poetry, flash fiction and creative non-fiction.

Wrapping up 2022

So the nut roast and mince pies are stowed away in our ship’s hold. And so far, the ship’s cat has turned a blind eye to the swags of tinsel. We look forward to seeing you all when we’re back in orbit with news and plans for 2023. Meanwhile, from all of us at Space Cat, have a peaceful and restorative holiday, you lovely people!

Rosetta Cover Reveal

We’ve been busy in the engine room this past month, prepping our latest book for launch. It’s a collection of prose and poetry about ESA’s Rosetta mission by Space Cat’s poet and editor, Siobhan Logan. Dabbing away the oil spots and polishing the chrome, we’re finally ready to share the cover design with you. And note the brand-new title too!

Space Cat Salutes ESA Rosetta Mission

At a time when climate change challenges to our planet are starkly evident, it’s good to be reminded of what humanity can achieve when we build on shared scientific knowledge. The European Space Agency’s Rosetta mission 2004-16 showed what was possible with transnational co-operation and ingenuity. Next month Space Cat Press will celebrate this mission with a collection of poetry and prose called ‘ROSETTA:  Voyage to a Comet’s Underworld’. The book will launch at the British Science Festival 2022 in Leicester.
